Invitation to local brands and retail concepts to be housed at iRetail Lab of UTM
To nurture retail management talents with comprehensive skillsets and promote exchanges between the industry and students, Macao University of Tourism established, in 2020, a new training facility called iRetail Lab, located in the East Asia Hall of Taipa Campus. The lab aims to provide a platform for students from the Bachelor of Tourism Retail and Marketing Management Programme to gain a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the theory and apply it to practice. With approximately 90 square metres of practical learning space, faculty members teach theoretical and practical knowledge in the domain of retail and marketing, including store design, merchandise display, digital marketing, merchandise buying and brand management. In addition, the iRetail Lab has introduced a consignment operation model, welcoming and allowing Macao’s local brands and retail operators to display and sell their products or concepts in the lab. The main product categories currently housed at the lab include watches, jewellery, cosmetics, electronics, apparel and souvenirs. For the time being, the opening hours of the lab is under review. All operations are managed by students with the supervision of faculty members. This consignment operation model has effectively integrated with our courses to enhance students’ practical knowledge in merchandising buying, store design and marketing. It also provides an ideal space for research-based projects about consumer behaviour.
